Winterizing Water Treatment Equipment

Old man winter can be tough on our homes, especially water-related equipment and pipes. Here are some tips to help you winterize your water treatment equipment and prevent any damage due to the cold temperatures:

If your water softener, treatment equipment or any water pipes at all are in an unheated area like a crawl space or garage, add some form of heat in there during the exceptionally low temps. Covering pipes with insulation helps.

Watch for drafts from windows that don’t seal fully or other places where outside air is entering through the foundation where that cold air is blowing on a pipe or piece of treatment equipment and could freeze it.

Drain lines are often overlooked as well. Sometimes they have to run through an unheated area and any standing water in them could freeze.  This generally does not cause any issues other than your water treatment equipment will not backwash/ regenerate properly and you  may think something is wrong with the equipment.

Of course, if you are experiencing any problems with your water treatment equipment, contact Sanatoga Water. If it is an emergency, contact 484-524-5802 after hours!
