What’s In Your Water? Scary Facts & Not So Scary Solutions

October is the beginning of the holiday season starting with Halloween. Scary movies and costumes are in the forefront of everyone’s mind. However, people don’t want to hear that their water could be scary to drink and use for cleaning. Even the water quality professionals don’t want to scare you into thinking your water quality is less than clean or safe. The fact is that if you have city water, the municipal water treatment facilities ARE meeting the EPA/DEP standards for water quality. However, your water could be cleaner! Individual contaminants like Lead and PFAS are a reality even after being treated at the municipal level.

PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of human-made chemicals that have been used in industry and consumer products worldwide since the 1950s. These chemicals are used to make household and commercial products that resist heat and chemical reactions and repel oil, stains, grease and water. PFAS chemicals include PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonic acid). SOURCE: https://www.healthvermont.gov

So, are these contaminants in our water enough to hurt us? Some believe that we NEED these so-called minerals in our water for health reasons. The levels of chlorine and fluoride as well as other elements that are not filtered out at the municipal level are not benefiting your health. You can filter out more of these microscopic particles before the water comes out of your faucet with water treatment equipment. Why not have peace of mind you are without a doubt drinking, bathing and cooking with cleaner, healthier water?

If you have a well, you should have water treatment equipment installed. If you already have equipment installed for your well but it hasn’t been inspected in a while, be sure to contact a certified water quality expert soon. The DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) recommends that homeowners with well water test every year for total coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids and pH levels. Trust a water treatment professional with a WQA (Water Quality Association) certification to help you choose the right UV system, neutralizer, and other well water treatment equipment for your home.

By the way, the price tag for water treatment equipment is not scary either! Installing a water treatment system is less expensive over time than purchasing water bottles, and you are saving the environment. Plus, most water treatment companies offer rental programs and financing.
