Answers to Questions about the Corona Virus and Water Quality

CAN THE CORONA VIRUS BE TRANSMITTED THROUGH MY DRINKING WATER?  Short answer, NO! To date, the virus that causes COVID-19 has not been detected in drinking water. Please read below based on the source of your home’s tap water:

CITY WATER: Treatment techniques utilized by public water suppliers inactivate the virus. However, a Reverse Osmosis Filtration System (RO filter) at your kitchen sink takes filtration a step further for added peace of mind. Plus, RO water saves your wallet and the environment on bottled water.

WELL WATER:  If you have a well and have not had a bacteria test recently, we recommend you contact a certified water treatment specialist to have your water tested. There has been some information from the CDC indicating that the virus can live in untreated waste stream.

CAN THE CORONA VIRUS SPREAD THROUGH POOLS, HOT TUBS, SPAS?  There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance, including disinfection with chlorine and bromine, of these facilities should inactive the virus in the water.

CAN I USE TAP WATER TO WASH MY HANDS IF THERE IS A LOCAL BOIL ALERT?  In most cases, it is safe to wash your hands with soap and tap water during a boil water advisory. Follow the guidance from your local public health officials or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

WATER TREATMENT SERVICES ARE ESSENTIAL:  The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has included the water treatment industry “essential” including all the roles our employees play in delivering cleaner, safer water. With this recognition comes education on the importance of our health. Now more than ever, everyone is following procedures to keep themselves, family, friends and even strangers safe from an invisible enemy that can affect everyone differently. Similarly, the quality of your water is something that needs to be equally respected. In-home water testing does not always tell the whole story and may not address specific elements in your water that can affect you or your family’s specific health or home, for example appliances, energy bills, cleanliness of sinks/tubs/faucets. Certified water treatment specialists have the testing equipment and knowledge of the test results to give you personalized recommendations on water treatment solutions.

To schedule your no-contact water test or a virtual consultation, please contact a water specialist at Sanatoga Water Conditioning.

If you're dealing with dry, unmanageable hair, it could be because of your water. Hard water keeps soaps and shampoos from rinsing off as they should, which leaves your hair with a sticky film.
