Well Water

Well Water

Well Water Information For Pennsylvania Residents

Approximately 85% of the U.S. population receives its water from community water systems. A typical American uses 80-100 gallons of water every day. If that sounds like a lot, consider that the total includes not just drinking water, but also the water used for washing – showers, hands, dishes, clothing – watering lawns, and waste disposal.

A Well is a strategically placed access point drilled into an aquifer, combined with a pump to withdraw the water and a basic filtering or screening system. Approximately 15% of the US population relies on individually owned sources of drinking water, such as wells, cisterns, and springs. The majority of household wells are found in rural areas.

Testing Well Water

Testing Well Water At Sanatoga Water Conditioning

If you have a well, you should be concerned about what is in your water that is not being filtered out like a property whose water is initially filtered by a municipal water treatment facility. Some of the common findings in well water include:

  • Bacteria
  • Arsenic: found in 60% of wells in PA
  • Low pH/ acidic water
  • Nitrates
  • VOCs
  • Lead

Contact Sanatoga Water to have your Well water tested. If you already have water treatment equipment installed for your Well but don’t know when it was last serviced or its effectiveness, let us inspect it.

Water quality from household wells is the responsibility of the homeowner.

Because of this, Sanatoga Water Conditioning is the preferred resource for water treatment equipment for quality Well water. We will test your water and suggest a solution for your water quality concerns, including: Neutralizers, Ultra-Violet (UV) Water Purification Systems, Softeners, Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Filters, and Pressure Boosting Tanks.

Neutralizers

What is a water neutralizer?

Blue green stains are a sign of low pH. Neutralizers are recommended for pH adjustment. Neutralizers reduce turbidity and neutralize acid water. They also can help with:

  • unpleasant taste and odor
  • sulfur odor
  • rust stains
  • blue green staining
  • pinhole leaks

The Neutralizers that Sanatoga Water Conditioning installs are an efficient and economical system for the reduction of iron and manganese compounds from Well water. Neutralizers also remove solids through a unique blend of different medias of differing filtration capability, resulting in better flow rates and longer media life.

Not all taste and odor problems can be solved with a neutralizer. Contact Sanatoga Water Conditioning to find out what other water treatment equipment you may need.

Ultra-Violet (UV) Water Purification:

What is an ultra-violet water purification system?

Properties with Well water may need to have UVs installed. UV technology is proven to control microbiological – bacteria & virus – issues in water including:

  • E. Coli
  • Cryptosporidium
  • Giardia Lamblia

UV water treatment equipment require annual maintenance to replace the lamp and every five years the quartz sleeve needs to be replaced.

Water Softeners:

How Do I Know I Need A Water Softener?

When you notice bad water signs around your home or business, it is time to call Sanatoga Water Conditioning for a FREE water test on your tap water. If the results show that your water has hardness minerals, you will need to install a water softener.

How Expensive Is A Water Softener?

Installing a water softener is about the cost of an appliance and definitely not as expensive as an air conditioner. You will definitely see savings in your everyday expenses on cleaning supplies, replacing worn out clothes, energy bills on hot water and even the health benefits make the investment into a water softener worth it.

It’s simple math! Click below to see the $avings!

How Does A Water Softener Work?

The functionality of a water softener is simple: the calcium and magnesium ions in the water are replaced with sodium ions. The process is called ion exchange.

Ion Exchange

Ions are atoms or groups of atoms that can gain or lose electrons in water and, thereby, exist in water with an electrical charge. Hardness exists as calcium (Ca++) and magnesium (Mg++) ions in water.

Ion exchange is a reversible chemical process in which sodium (Na++) ions from the insoluble solid medium (the ion exchanger resin) are exchanged for the calcium and magnesium ions in the water. The physical structure of the resin is not affected.

Regeneration

Eventually, the beads contain nothing but calcium and magnesium and no sodium. At this point they stop softening the water and it’s time to regenerate.

There are three phases to this:

  • Backwash: Water flow is reversed to flush dirt out of the tank.
  • Recharge: The salt/brine solution is flushed from the brine tank through the mineral tank. Since the brine is so strong, it replaces all of the calcium and magnesium that has built up on the beads and with sodium.
  • Refill: The mineral tank is flushed of the calcium, magnesium, and excess brine, which exit through a drainpipe. The brine tank is refilled.

Reverse Osmosis:

What is a Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System?

What Is A Reverse Osmosis System?

Reverse Osmosis (RO) water is the final barrier treatment solution to your water quality problems. RO water is recommended for drinking and cooking, even if you have a water softener in your home or business.

A reverse osmosis system can eliminate even more contaminants giving you purified water at your tap. It is compact in size and can be easily installed under your kitchen sink. They can also be installed in the basement, to your ice maker in your refrigerator AND for pet bowls.

RO water filters will also save you money on buying water bottles and gallons at the grocery store as well as water bottle delivery. PLUS, you will be saving the environment.

How Does A Reverse Osmosis System Work?

The process works by forcing water under great pressure against a semi-permeable membrane, where water molecules form a barrier that allows other water molecules to pass through while excluding most contaminants. Maintenance involves the replacement of the RO membrane cartridge every two or three years and the carbon and sediment pre-filters every six to twelve months. RO also incorporates an activated carbon filter, which can provide added treatment for the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) not treated by the membrane itself.

Pressure Boosting Tanks:

How pressure boosting tanks improve your home water

Who wouldn’t like a constant 50 or more pounds of pressure in their house all the time?

Sanatoga Water Conditioning has an affordable pressure boosting pump that will maintain a constant pressure in your home, either installed before or after your water treatment equipment. And it will even work on public water where people are at the end of the run or higher up on a hill where they don’t have great pressure.

Great experience from first call to final product!"
